Youth Activities
Schools Out Field Trips
Palisad Recreation will give youth a chance to participate in an unique activity when school is out of session. All youth should pack a sack lunch, water bottle, and appropriate clothing for the select activity.

Defy Gravity:
Date: Friday, March 8th
Fee: $30
Location: Defy Gravity on the corner of 32 & C Rd, just past Corn Lake State Park.
Summary: Participants will get to sample a variety of activities offered by Defy Gravity. Activities will include gymnastics, archery, areal yoga, and silk trapeze. All activities will be taught by trained professionals.

Location:
Summary: Become the best scientist and mathematician on your block in this one day minicamp. Explore our physical world by experimenting with light, color, and water. Examine microscopic creatures, creepy crawly critters, feathers, bones, and more! Be a budding botanist and help plant a sunflower tee pee. Make math fun by outscoring an opponent in a variety of board games.
Tots Tumbling: (Deadline 3/29)
Tots will engage in activities promoting creative movement and will learn the basics of tumbling and gymnastics.

Beginner Gymnastics: (Deadline 4/1)
Youth will learn the fundamentals of gymnastics including basic tumbling exercises, high beam, introduction to vaulting, and engage in exercises that will help to improve balance, flexibility, coordination, and mental focus.

Cost: $18.00 (4 week session)

Palisade After Hours Program (1/8 - 5/22)
Designed both to offer an after school supervision option and engage youth in fun and active games such as nature hikes, mini-field trips, sports, gymnastics, and a variety of problem solving activities. Taylor students enrolled in the program will be picked up from school each day of program.

Capture the Flag: (3/12, 4/9, 5/14)
Youth in grades 1-5 are invited to play capture the flag. All players must come dressed in tennis shoes. Participants may be picked up at Taylor, if registration is given a minimum of one day in advance.

Children of all levels are invited to learn the basics of karate and self-defense through a pattern of routines that will help youth to enhance coordination skills, self-discipline, and memorization.

Archery: (March & April Sessions)
Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) is a program of USA Archery that is designed to teach archery to young people, over a series of classes taught by a certified archery instructor. JOAD offers both recurve and compound archers the opportunity to learn range safety and proper shooting technique in an environment that also fosters focus, increased self-confidence, and team building skills.

Venture out with Palisade Recreation for a tour of Allen Unique Autos and a brisk walk along the Audubon Trail, the GJ section of the Riverfront Trail. All participants should pack a sack lunch. Fee includes transportation and admission to the museum.

Get outdoors and improve your golf game for a day of golfing at Chipeta Golf Course. Start off the trip with a clinic taught by a PGA golf pro, and then hit the course for a round of 9 holes. Pack a lunch or bring money for the grille following the golf game.

Powderhorn Ski Day (Deadline 3/8)
Join Palisade Recreation once a month to hit the slopes at Powderhorn Mountain Resort. Participants have the option of purchasing a lift ticket, renting gear, or just taking the bus up with the group.

Kids and parents are invited to the 1st Palisade Bike Rodeo where youth participants will have a teh opportunity to improve their bike riding skills and learn proper bike safety through a variety of games and obstacle courses.

Outdoor Heritage Day: (Saturday, April 27)
Families are invited to celebrate the great outdoors of Colorado with a fun event for the whole family. Participate in a variety of outdoor events such as touch a fish, archery, basic rifle safety, boat safety, fishing, and more. The first 500 participants will receive a free fishing pole. Contact the Division of Wildlife to participate as a vendor.

Colorado Rockies Skill Challenge: (Saturday, May 4th)
Youth between the ages of 6-14 are invited to showcase their baseball skills as they compete in throwing, hitting, and running events. the first place male and female in each age group will advance to sectionals, which will be held in late May or June. All youth must bring a copy of their birth certificates for age verification. All participants must be registered by the start of the event.

Palisade Recreation would like to promote healthy lifestyles with the 2nd Annual Health Fair. The fair features a variety of health and wellness consultations and evaluations, plus free massages and door prize.
Free group hike following the health fair at 1:00pm, meet at the Palisade Rim Trail head.

SPRING HIKING SERIES
Enjoy the smells of spring with a series of hikes in the Grand Valley. Let your feet do the work while delighting the senses. Transportation is provided for each hike.
All hikes begin with meet up at Town Hall in Palisade at 8:00am
Cost is $4 per hike and includes transportation. Class minimum is 3 with a maximum of 12.
What to bring? Water, sturdy shoes, sunscreen, light layers, hat, and snacks.
